District Nursing (West Dunbartonshire)

The district nursing service delivers high quality, compassionate and holistic care to all patients referred to the service. The teams across West Dunbartonshire comprise Charge Nurses (who hold a Special Practitioner Qualification in District Nursing), Community Staff Nurses (RN), and Health Care Support Workers and provide nursing care to housebound patients in their home environment. How to access service:
  • Open access to all patients and their carers.
  • Referral from health, social care and Third Sector colleagues.
The range of nursing care delivered is extensive and varied, including the interventions listed below:
  • Palliative care
  • End of life care
  • Medication administration
  • Technical care
  • Anticipatory care
  • Tissue viability (including wound management)
  • Management of complex packages of care
  • Leg ulcer management
Each Health Centre has a Treatment Room available for patients who are not housebound. This service can be accessed via GP practices, referrals from hospitals and other health care professionals. Treatment Rooms can be accessed Monday to Friday 08.30 -16.30 and are closed at weekends.
